Areas of active research within the Department of Physics include biological physics; atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics; condensed matter physics; and physics education.
Interdisciplinary research is common. Strong collaborations exist between our faculty and members of other departments and schools across the IU Indianapolis campus.
As a Ph.D. candidate, you will work closely with an advisor and an advisory committee to develop your plan of study, and you will complete a substantial research project under the supervision of your faculty advisor.
Your thesis will be submitted to the graduate school, and you must defend the work in a public presentation followed by a meeting with your graduate advisory committee.
