Orthodontics

Master of Science in Dentistry

About

Orthodontics involves diagnosing jaw dysfunction and misaligned teeth. A specialty in orthodontics will prepare you to focus on the movement of teeth, jaw and facial bones, and soft tissues. You'll be able to prevent and treat tooth and jaw irregularities through alignment and straightening techniques—often reducing pain and improving patients' quality of life.

Orthodontists may also have the potential to earn more than general dentists due to the complexity of the services they provide. In addition to enhancing your clinical practice skills through this program, you'll be qualified to teach.

This two-year program is designed for applicants who hold a D.D.S., D.M.D., or an equivalent degree. Graduates earn a Master of Science in Dentistry along with a clinical certificate in orthodontics.

Courses begin in July, and your plan of study includes didactic and clinical coursework, oral and written qualifying exams, and a research project.

You'll need to apply through the American Dental Education Association Postdoctoral Application Support Service (ADEA PASS).

Check the IU School of Dentistry website for application deadlines and more specific program information.

Take the next step in your career—specialize in orthodontics.
