AFRI-Y 501: ELEMENTARY YORUBA I (3 credits)

First of a two-semester sequence. Introduction to Yoruba language and culture, a major African language spoken in Nigeria. Basic grammatical structures and vocabulary. Emphasis on spoken language and listening comprehension, language use in specific social settings (e.g., market, hospital, school), and appropriate cultural features (e.g., foods, marriage, etc.). Student projects.
