ARTH-A 475: THE VIEWER IN THE PAINTING: FICTION, FANTASY, AND HOW WE RESPOND TO AND WRITE ABOUT ART (3 credits)

About

Connects the trope, common in fantasy literature, of a magical painting serving as a portal to another world to the analysis and consideration of art. Analyzes theories of viewer response and explores the literary technique of ekphrasis that can help us articulate the fascination that painting can exert upon viewers.
