Chinese painting and pictorial art from the Six Dynasties through the Song Dynasty (ca. 200-1300 A.D.). Topics include figure and narrative painting; the culture of landscape, from mountains to gardens; the iconography of small motifs drawn from nature; institutional and private patronage; and the relationships between painting, poetry, and calligraphy.
