Preparation for the understanding of global economic events and interpreting how nations manage their money supply, interest rates, and exchange rates. Topics covered are the role of the central bank in the national monetary market; types of central banks; the international monetary system and the international monetary fund; exchange rates and international cooperation; and the development of monetary unions (for example, the European Monetary Union).
