This course introduces the Baltic states at graduate level. We cover independence during the Russian Revolution and three eras: interwar, Soviet rule, and the re-establishment of independence and aftermath. Socio-economic change and culture also receive attention. The approach is comparative. Weekly meetings are centered on discussion of common readings.
