About
The short twentieth century (1918-1989) in Central Europe has seen dramatic ruptures and transformation. This course will allow you to develop a new understanding of this period through personal encounters with the fascinating metropolis of Berlin. You will study the history, read the literature, analyze the culture, and experience living in this diverse part of Europe. You will see the bullet holes that still exist on Berlin buildings, walk in the streets where National Socialist troops marched, see where activists demanded change in 1989, and study the histories of victims and perpetrators in Germany's bloody twentieth century.
