This course is designed to expand the students' understanding of microbiology and infectious diseases and to complement student learning in concurrent Molecular Cell Biology, Dental Sciences I and Introduction to Clinical Dentistry courses. It prepares the student for the Systems Approach to Biomedical Sciences (SABS) courses in the following semester. The principles of pharmacology are introduced, including the basics of pharmacodynamics (what the drugs do to the body), pharmacokinetics (what the body does to the drug) and therapeutics (the use of a drug or combination of drugs to treat disease).
