Topics include: geologic time and the fossil record, preservation of vertebrate fossils, and how to "read" the fossil record. Dinosaur anatomy is surveyed in terms of evolutional changes. Controversies such as evolutionary paths are considered and extinction of dinosaurs is placed in the context of other mass extinctions.
