This course is designed to build on a law student's substantive knowledge about legal issues facing institutions of higher education. Topics covered will include: governance (university authority and liability, employment relationships, special issues with faculty employment), the student/institution relationship (the legal status of students, legal issues concerning admission, financial aid, housing and security, the legal rights and responsibilities of student organizations, their members, and student athletes), and the legal dynamics among and between institutions of higher education and their respective host communities (academic programs, workforce development, economic development, research funding, and leadership).
