MGEN-Q 624: CLINICAL MANAGEMENT & GENETICS OF METABOLIC DISEASE (1 credit)

About

Course is an introduction to metabolic diseases that genetic counselors may encounter in clinical practice. Students willl gain a practical understanding of inborn errors of metabolism, the management of patients with these diseases and the genetic counseling issues that arise in the care of families with these diseases. Each topic will begin with a discussion of the normal pathway followed by how aberrations in the pathway lead to disease and implications for genetic counseling. The class is designed to be interactive; students are encouraged to contribute to class discussion and to ask questions.
