PHAR-F 828: PRINCIPLES OF PHARMACEUTICAL TOXICOLOGY IN THE 21ST CENTURY (2 credits)

About

Using basic principles of toxicology and novel therapeutic-lead screening technologies, the understanding of pharmaceutical- or xenobiotic-induced target organ or system toxicology will be presented. Students will develop an understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in toxic responses elicited by therapeutic leads and environmental agents, activation and detoxification mechanisms for chemicals, and principles of estimating human risk assessment from pharmaceutical or xenobiotic exposure. This course will largely be taught by industry experts in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields. This course is designed to provide a foundation for understanding the complex interactions between toxicants/pharmaceutical leads and biological systems from an industry approach.
