The course is organized in such a way that students will learn the basic principles of chemistry that underly most common environmental issues, including global warming, air pollution, ocean acidification and environmental contamination. Additionally, the course will explore the complex interrelationships among the physical, chemical, biological, agricultural, cultural, economic, and political forces that shape the environment of the world in which we live. Through an enhanced understanding of the chemical aspects of these issues, students will gain increased environmental awareness.
