About
This course surveys the history of sexuality from the French Revolution to the Internet age, focusing on Europe and the United States. Investigating the impact of imperialism, technology, medicine, psychology, and literature, this course will chart the changing meanings of sexuality and sexual norms and the social responses those transformations elicited. Through an investigation of primary and secondary material dealing with sexuality and the shifting framework surrounding it, students will explore how the definitions of sexual behaviors shaped public and private expressions of desire and identity.
