DDS-Master of Public Health MPH Dual Degree

Doctor of Dental Surgery

About

Dental public health is a dental specialty recognized by the American Dental Association. It combines the clinical expertise of a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree with the science and strategy of disease prevention through organized community efforts. This specialty focuses on improving oral health at the population level through applied research, public education, and policy development.

In addition to gaining the knowledge required to pass dental licensing exams and enter clinical practice, graduates are also prepared to lead in areas such as public health administration, oral disease prevention, and dental research.

Earning a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) credential opens doors to careers with federal and state agencies, nonprofit and advocacy organizations, and hospitals and healthcare systems.

Interested D.D.S. students should apply to IU's Fairbanks School of Public Health M.P.H. program during the spring semester of their second year. You can typically complete the combined D.D.S./M.P.H. program within five years. Check the IU School of Dentistry website for application deadlines and more specific program information.
