Dental Surgery (DDS)
Offered at IU Indianapolis by School of Dentistry
About
Dentistry is a rewarding and impactful profession that combines science, precision, and patient care. Dentists diagnose and treat issues related to teeth, gums, and the mouth. Their work may include removing decay, repairing or extracting damaged teeth, applying sealants or whitening treatments, prescribing medications, reviewing X-rays, and creating dental appliance models.
With a median annual salary well into six figures and a projected job growth rate of 5 percent over the next decade,* dentistry offers both professional fulfillment and financial stability. Many dentists also choose to specialize in areas such as orthodontics, oral surgery, or pediatric dentistry.
At Indiana University's Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) program, you'll complete four years of intensive study—including summer sessions—focused on developing essential clinical and patient-care skills. Graduates are prepared to sit for clinical board exams and begin practice immediately or pursue additional training.
To qualify, you should be well on your way to completing an undergraduate degree, including all required prerequisite courses. You should also be shadowing a dentist and will need to take an entrance examination (Dental Admission Test).
Apply through the Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS) and the IU Graduate School. Check the IU School of Dentistry website for application deadlines and more specific program information.
