Periodontology
Offered at IU Indianapolis by School of Dentistry
About
Periodontists are specialists in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of gum disease, as well as in the surgical placement of dental implants.
As a student in this program, you'll gain in-depth expertise in diagnostics, preventive care, and treatments used in periodontology and dental implant surgery. You'll deepen your knowledge and be well-prepared to take the American Board of Periodontology exam.
The skills you acquire will enhance your clinical practice, increase your earning potential, and open doors to teaching or research opportunities.
In addition to enhancing your clinical practice skills through this program, you'll be qualified to teach.
This three-year program is designed for applicants who hold a D.D.S., D.M.D., or an equivalent degree. Graduates earn a Master of Science in Dentistry along with a clinical certificate in periodontics.
Courses begin in July and include didactic and clinical coursework, oral and written qualifying exams, and a research project. You'll also gain teaching experience in predoctoral clinics and deliver lectures.
You'll need to apply through the American Dental Education Association Postdoctoral Application Support Service (ADEA PASS) and the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program.
