Today's urban environments present unique challenges and rewards. The master's in Secondary Education will give you the advanced skills you need to face these issues and thrive in any setting. By the time you graduate, you will be prepared to succeed and support all learners.

The program has two tracks and focuses on the following:

  • Assessment
  • Curriculum
  • Culture and communities
  • Educational philosophy
  • English Language Learners
  • Politics and schools as organizations
  • Research
  • Special education
  • Teacher leadership

Initial Licensure track:

Aspiring Teacher Alternative Certification program (ATAC); non-school affiliate or school employee.

District-Based Alternative Certification program (DBAC); school affiliate or school employee.

The Secondary ATAC/DBAC program (5-12) begins once a year in the summer. Students complete licensure courses and electives. Classes are offered in a hybrid format.

Note: Students must fulfill all Indiana Department of Education licensure requirements.

Urban Education track (non-licensure):

Students are prepared to work in education and non-education settings.
