Bachelor of Social Work

About

This is a TSAP program.

The IU School of Social Work's Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.) program offers a strong introduction to the social work profession through applied, student‑centered learning.

The program is structured around core competencies and places field education at the heart of the experience, allowing you to connect coursework with practice.

You will learn to engage with individuals, families, groups, and communities while developing skills for advocacy and ethical practice.

Classes also introduce research and evaluation tools used to assess programs and improve outcomes at multiple system levels.

Supported by a liberal arts foundation, the B.S.W. prepares you for entry‑level practice, continued education, and long‑term professional growth.

Program highlights:

  • Competency-based curriculum built for generalist social work roles
  • Field education integrated as a central learning component
  • Preparation to engage diverse populations and communities
  • Emphasis on advocacy, research, and ethical decision‑making
  • Strong preparation for careers or advanced standing in an M.S.W. program

Transfer Single Articulation Pathway (TSAP) degree programs at IU Indianapolis allow students at Ivy Tech Community College and Vincennes University to earn an associate degree in a specified field and then transfer to IU with junior status to complete a bachelor's degree in the same field.
